PDC Passes New 'Green' Rules for its Investments

PORTLAND-Developers whose projects are at least 10% financed by the Portland Development Commission must now adhere to a new set of "green" building requirements. The new rules require buildings to meet the basic certification standard adopted by the U.S. Green Building Council.

PORTLAND-Buildings at least 10% financed through the Portland Development Commission will be required to meet heightened environmental standards under a policy -passed late last week. Earlier this year, the city adopted similar rules for construction of city-owned and operated buildings.

The new rules require buildings to meet the basic certification standard adopted by the U.S. Green Building Council, which uses a points-based scoring system. The PDC says it hopes to have projects meeting an even higher environmental standard, and also hopes private developers will voluntarily adhere to the standards.
