The value of Sverdrup's contract was not disclosed although it will become public information in the county manager's records.

The new site is three miles from the existing Lanier plant. Completion is tentatively scheduled for summer 2004. The county anticipates increased water needs by 2010 from the estimated 25,000 residents moving into Gwinnett County each year.

The plant is being designed for a potential 75 million-gallon-per-day expansion after 2010, according to a prepared statement by Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. of Pasadena, CA, Sverdrup's parent.
