LONDON-Railtrack has put in a revised planning application for the redevelopment of Paddington Station in London’s West End. The landmark office tower, designed by Nicholas Grimshaw, has been shortened to 25 storeys to meet the new height restrictions, imposed by Westminster City Council to protect the West End skyline.

Neighbouring landowner Chelsfield has already made a similar decision with its Richard Rogers-designed tower on the Paddington basin site. But other elements of Railtrack’s plans for the station – built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel in the mid-19th century – remain broadly unchanged

Phase two includes a 780,000 sf commercial development, with a link to the other major development sites in the area including the Paddington Basin, Paddington Goods Yard and St Mary’s Hospital sites. The scheme will also open up the station’s frontage to the Grand Union canal.
