Texas Foliage Supplier Buying Out VJ Growers

APOPKA, FL-BWI Cos. Inc. of Schulenberg, TX is also hiring a dozen workers from the 34-year-old, 40-person Florida firm going out of business after struggling to book sales of $12 million this year, $3 million under budget. Apopka is 17 miles northwest of Downtown Orlando.

APOPKA, FL-After servicing Central Florida nurseries for 34 years, VJ Growers Supply Inc. is closing the doors at its 40-person, 10-acre, 75,000-sf plant because of lagging sales.

BWI Cos. Inc. of Schulenberg, TX is expected to buy about $1 million worth of VJ’s inventory and possibly hire a dozen VJ workers for its new 90,000-sf plant five miles west of the VJ site, industry sources familiar with the transaction tell GlobeSt.com on condition of anonymity.

BWI already has bought $1 million of VJ’s inventory at Homestead, FL in South Florida.
