PG&E Gets Key Approval for Major Power Plant

HERMISTON, OR-The new plant is expected to be in service by 2004, with 15 full-time employees. Construction is slated to begin in early spring 2002. About 325 jobs are expected to be created at the peak of construction.

HERMISTON, OR-The Oregon Energy Facility Siting Council has awarded a site certificate for the Umatilla Generating Project, a natural gas-fired power plant proposed by PG&E Corp.’s PG&E National Energy Group. PG&E says the certificate is a major milestone in the process to prepare the land in northeastern Oregon for construction.

The proposed plant will be designed with the capacity to generate up to 598 megawatts of electricity. It will be located across the street from PG&E NEG’s Hermiston Generating Plant near Hermiston, which supports 27 full-time employees.
