Meanwhile, police here report a disturbing byproduct of the East Coast tragedies -- bogus bomb threats are up 500% this week.

Roger Ryan was being held at Cook County jail, facing felony charges in connection to about 10 calls to emergency services operators. "This is not a prank," says Police Supt. Terry Hillard. "This crime is punishable by two to five years in jail. This is something I would have to say is a campaign of disruption."

The Sears Tower, which on a normal day is the workday home to about 10,000 workers, was evacuated in mid-morning Sept. 11 less than two hours after two jets crashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center. Other Downtown office buildings as well as retail centers in the city and suburbs shortly followed suit. Security at Sears Tower has been beefed up in the wake of the terrorist attacks.
