EDEN PRAIRIE, MN-Department 56, a leading collectibles and specialty giftware company, says it has bought Axis Corp., a specialty retailer and doll designer. Department 56 officials say they hope to expand on Axis’ network of kiosks in 350 major malls and shopping centers in the US and Canada set up during the holiday season.

Axis’ products, primarily porcelain dolls, doll accessories and plush items, are marketed under the brand name Geppeddo. Department 56, known for its porcelain collectibles, set up its first major retail store in the Mall of America in Bloomington, MN, two years ago. It is marking its 25th anniversary this year.
