SONOMA-The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors is proceeding with the expansion of Sonoma Airport, but the airport’s worsening financial situation and new security requirements will lengthen timelines and alter designs.

David Knight, the county’s transportation and public works director, says the county will continue to move forward on a new terminal and runway and a new regional air carrier, but he warned the board, “After Sept. 11, the whole world has changed for airports.”

Due to lost revenue and increased development costs, the Charles Schultz-Sonoma County Airport expects that it will have lost about $70,000 between Sept. 11 and Oct. 11. Knight says that additional security alone is costing $1,000 a day.
