The state Office of Financial Management Wednesday announced that the $13 million OC expansion would be halted along with $300 million in other construction projects. Other higher education projects affected include a $42 million classroom space at the University of Washington Tacoma and a $27 million communications building at Western Washington University.

The state had appropriated funds to build the campus on a 214-acre development west of Highway 3 and Finn Hill Road.

OFM already had lowered its revenue forecast even before the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11. But the attacks, coupled with downturns in the airlines industry, shaky financial markets and fearful consumers, have prompted the state to put these projects on hold.
