Science Park for Edinburgh, Scotland

EDINBURGH-University of Edinburgh and Grosvenor, the property group headed by the Duke of Westminster, have agreed terms jointly to develop a science research park on the outskirts of Scotland's capital.

EDINBURGH-Edinburgh University is to create a £100 million ($148 million) science park on a 126-acre site south of the city centre. In partnership with Grosvenor Estates, the science park will create 450,000 sf of space for start-up companies. The site of the park is the Bush Estate, near Penicuik.. It is centred on a Georgian mansion house, Bush House, which will be converted to a hotel and conference venue. Grosvenor is to plan, develop, build and manage the scheme.

Known as the Edinburgh Technopole, the new 126-acre site will provide a location for companies to carry out research and entrepreneurial activity with the University. Companies occupying the Technopole will have the advantage of tapping in to research and consultancy from University of Edinburgh’s academic staff, who pull in an annual research income expected to reach £117 million ($173 million) this year.

The Bush Estate is already home to almost 50 companies. The Edinburgh Technopole will sit within a significant cluster of world-class scientific institutes at Bush Estate, including The Roslin and Moredun Institutes, Scottish Veterinary Field Station and the Natural Environmental Research Council.
