The three-story, 69,000-sf facility Van Eslander Cancer Center is affiliated with St. John Hospital and Medical Centers. The new center is located on one of the hospital campuses at Make and Moross roads.
The new center cost $25 million to build and equip, but is worth every penny, says company spokesman Mike Kairis.
"The new center is aimed at meeting patient needs by locating all cancer-related sources are in one place. Cancer patients sometimes have to go all over a campus to see many different doctors, and we've put them all together here," he tells GlobeSt.com.
The center is affiliated with the University of Michigan Cancer Center Network, a group of hospitals and physician practices throughout the region.
Kairis says that together, U of M and St. John hospitals see more than 14,000 new cancer cases every year, and offer the newest in clinical tests.
Detroit's Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute and the Detroit Medical Center have opened the new $10-million Lawrence and Idell Weisberg Cancer Treatment Center, located on Northwestern Highway in Farmington Hills.
The 18,000-sf cancer treatment center will offer chemotherapy, radiation oncology and other cancer treatments.
"There's nothing more frightening than hearing that you have cancer," says Lawrence Weisberg, a donor to the project. "Everything has been designed to help remove some of that fear. It is a very soothing place."
Spokeswoman Chinyere Ubamadu says the home-like environment offers manyamenities including; a fireplace, homelike waiting room, waterfall, individual changing rooms, kitchenettes, views of nature and gardens from treatment areas, arts and crafts furniture and soothing artwork.
The facility will also serve as the new headquarters for the Sinai Guild, a 2,000-member organization dedicated to supporting hospital's activities in northwestern Detroit and Oakland County.
The new center joins several similar Karmanos patient care facilities inOakland County.
