SALEM, OR-Two Japanese companies are apparently negotiating for the development of manufacturing facilities in the region in 2002, one in Portland and another in Salem. Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber, back this week from a trade mission to Asia, says he can 't reveal any details other than one would manufacture sports equipment in the Portland area and the other wants to produce printer components in Salem.
It's that kind of ongoing interest in the market that, as reported in GlobeSt.com a few months ago, has San Francisco-based Catellus and developing 180,000-sf of speculative industrial space at Southshore Corporate Park on the Northeastern edge of Portland's city limits.
In August, Fuji Photo Film USA backfilled 27,000-sf of shell space at Southshore recently vacated by Centric Corp. Fuji leased the shell space for five years at the going rate of around 36 cents per sf per month and now is engaged in a multi-million build out. Ted Nicholson and Marty Horeis of CB Richard Ellis represented Fuji in the deal. Tom Talbot and Steve Barragar of Grubb & Ellis represented building owner Catellus Development Corp.
