The current offices are being moved up to the mezzanine area in order to expand the showroom that holds more than 250 bikes.

With the addition, the total square footage will be 43,748, which includes 8,000 sf of new mezzanine and a service area expansion from eight bays to 15 double bays.

According to Ron Buchbaum, general manager of Motown Harley-Davidson, the company will have a tremendous amount of space to store bikes for the winter. The office also needs room for its "Riders' Edge" motorcycle-training course, which will be taught by the Dearborn Heights police department.

The overall design concept for the building is a reflection of the Harley-Davidson Motorcycle itself. The entry is made to reflect power, speed and sleekness. The showroom floor and ceiling represents the wheel of a motorcycle and the office portion represents the engine.

"That part (the office or engine) is the heart of the motorcycle and the heart of the operation," says Laura McElheron, project architect for DeMattia.

DeMattia Group is a real estate development, design and construction firm.
