The center is scheduled to open in March 2002.
"The new research center will enhance our ability to serve the needs of enthusiasts and researchers around the world," says Steven K. Hamp,president of Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village.
In April, the National Endowment for the Humanities awarded the Museum a major grant to assist in moving and housing the clothing, textiles, toys and other artifacts that will be stored in the new Research Center. During construction of the facility, the current research center hasrelocated temporarily.
The move entails more than three miles of boxes, nearly 100,000 volumes, more than 1 million photos, 50 staff members, two dozen volunteers and equipment from the current facility to the new center.
