Kiferbaum Construction Corp. has broken ground in northwest suburban Wheeling, IL, for a 92,000-sf expansion of a manufacturing facility owned by Wieland Metals, which makes semi-finished copper and metal alloy products for a worldwide market. The project involves a 12,000-sf expansion to an existing structure, plus an 80,000-sf new building that will connect two existing structures.

About 2,000 feet will be office space, 78,000 sf will be for metal slitting and 12,000 sf will serve for making copper tubing. Ceiling heights will vary from 20 to 40 feet.
