Efforts to develop the plan were announced Sept. 24. The plan is designed to support and maximize efforts statewide, and encourage funding at the state and local levels. It will include statistics about the industry, identify new funding sources for marketing, and include a new ad campaign designed by Wieden + Kennedy, as well as other elements.

Tourism, with an annual economic impact of $6 billion, is one of the state's key industries. To ensure the health and viability of the industry, OTC says it consulted with business partners, community leaders, tourism organizations, and state and national officials "to develop the plan to provide positive support for the state and industry in this time of recovery."

The crisis response plan also will be available online at http://www.traveloregon.com/response and through the Oregon Tourism Commission office in Salem (503-986-0000) immediately following the announcement.

The Oregon Tourism Commission is an independent arm of the Oregon Economic and Community Development Department. It directs the state's tourism marketing and development efforts. The commission has a staff of nine and a $6.4 million biennial budget funded by lottery revenues.
