188-Room Hotel to Begin Construction

BROOKLINE, MA-After a series of delays, construction is set to begin shortly on a Marriott Courtyard hotel here on a 33,000-sf on Webster Street parking lot. The hotel is being built at a time when an already-floundering local lodging industry has been set back even further by recession and terrorism. Its developers, however, say they are not discouraged by the state of the economy.

David Proch-Wilson, project manager for the hotel being developed by Newcastle Hotels, a Connecticut-based company that will operate the facility, tells GlobeSt.com that construction will begin in about a week. Ground was originally supposed to be broken last spring but a change in contractors delayed the project. Then the early fall start date coincided with the terror attacks and while Proch-Wilson says that all the funding was committed, the logistics of getting everything signed forced additional delays.
