The new store is part of a companywide expansion in the fourth quarter in which Stein Mart will add 15 stores and close one. Its total number of stores at the end of the year will be 253. The company says is intends to follow through on plans to open 30 stores in 2002, but is closely watching the economy.
Other San Antonio Stein Marts are at 4522 Fredricksburg Rd., 999 East Basse Rd. and 18134 San Pedro. The company has 44 stores in Texas. Stein Mart stores are about 38,000 gross sf in neighborhood shopping centers.
