Conference Focuses On Downtown Renewal

ROCHESTER, MI-Downtown redevelopment success stories, such as the adaptive re-use of the Western Knitting Mill here, are on tap Nov. 2 in historic Downtown. The program received funds from the Main Street program.

ROCHESTER, MI-The Michigan Downtown & Financing Association will host a day-longconference Nov. 2 on “Adaptive Re-use and Restoration of Historic Buildings” at the Downtown library. The successful adaptive re-use of the Western Knitting Mill, now Rochester Mills Beer Company, will be detailed, with lunch at the facility.

National speaker Donovan Rypkema of the Real Estate Services Group of Washington,DC will discuss the economic impact of downtown revitalization and adaptive re-use, along with Main Street Oakland County Coordinator Bob Donohue, who helped coordinate the Western Knitting Mill restoration project.

The Rochester Downtown area was chosen by the Main Street program to receive funds to increase the success of the popular area.
