GlobeSt.com UPDATE: Hospital's 495,000-SF Expansion Clears First Hurdle

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL-A proposal by Broward County Medical Center to construct 495,000-sf of new space awaits a planning and zoning review now that it has sailed through a development review committee.

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL-It appears Broward County Medical Center is hitting nothing but green lights in its plan to add 495,000 sf of new space to its 744-bed facility at 1600 S. Andrews Ave.

The hospital sailed through a Fort Lauderdale Development Review Committee review this week, and is tentatively scheduled for a second round of site-plan review at the Dec. 12 meeting of the Fort Lauderdale Planning and Zoning Board.

If the site plan passes the P&Z board, the project would require only the approval of the Fort Lauderdale City Commission prior to pulling building permits. The medical center is an affiliate of the North Broward Hospital District, a non-profit community health system.
