The Planning Commission has openings for three volunteers: one from Council District Number 4-generally Tacoma's East Side, including the McKinley Avenue and Salishan neighborhoods; one with experience in public transportation; and one who possesses a background in architecture, historic preservation and/or urban design. The term for the volunteer positionsbegins January 2002 and will expire Dec. 31, 2005.
As a member of the Planning Commission, the chosen applicants will advise the City Council on issues that will impact the city's comprehensive plan, neighborhood planning, land use and development regulations and other land use issues.
"This is a great opportunity for citizens to be a part of Tacoma's future development," says Juli Wilkerson, economic development director.
The Planning Commission meets at 4 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at the Tacoma Municipal Building North, 728 St. Helens Ave., Room 16.
Citizens can obtain a map with the exact boundaries for Council District 4 from the City Clerk's office to ensure they fall within that district before applying.
