The former gasworks site is being redeveloped by St George in one of the largest urban regeneration projects seen in London. Planning consent has been granted for 1,665 new homes plus 235,000 sf of commercial space. In addition to the hotel and foodstore, the scheme will include 140,000 sf of office space; 43,000 sf of mixed retail and restaurant space and a 34,000-sf health and fitness club.

The whole development will include 10.5 acres of open waterfront parkland with a riverside walk. There are also plans to build a railway station and waterfront jetty to serve the area.

Michael Meanley, Managing Director of St George Central London, said: 'We are delighted that Marks & Spencer has taken the food store, thereby reinforcing the quality of our scheme as a new urban village in London.'
