St. Paul Cos. Promotes Construction Exec

ST. PAUL, MN-Robert Lamendola, now executive vice president, retains the presidency of the global surety and construction group, which accounts for 15% of the insurance company's premiums.

ST. PAUL, MN-Robert J. Lamendola, the head of the St. Paul. Cos. construction and surety group, was recently promoted to executive vice president of the commercialproperty-casualty insurance company. Lamendola will continue to serve as president of The St. Paul’s global surety and construction group, a business with nearly $1 billion in annual net written premiums, about 15% of the company’s total. Earlier this year,Lamendola oversaw the formation of the group, which attempts to tap synergies between the fast-growing construction insurance business and the continuing global expansionof the company’s surety operations.

Lamendola, 57, joined The St. Paul in 1998 as a result of the company’s merger with USF&G, where he had worked since 1992, and was instrumental in building the company’s surety operation. The St. Paul Cos. provides commercial property-liability insurance and non-life reinsurance worldwide. The St. Paul reported 2000 revenue fromcontinuing operations of $8 billion, total assets of $35.5 billion, and is ranked No. 222 on the Fortune 500 list of largest US companies.
