Mixed-Use Industrial Project Falters

DEERFIELD BEACH, FL-Growth-management rules are posing an obstacle for the owners of a struggling commercial nursery, who want to redevelop the property as a 570,000-sf industrial park in this Broward County community, 42 miles north of Miami.

DEERFIELD BEACH, FL-The owners of Kraft Gardens Inc. are encountering obstacles in their effort to redevelop a commercial nursery into a mixed-use industrial-retail park.

An effort by the Kraft family to plat the property they own at the southeast corner of Powerline Road and West Drive has been deferred twice by the Broward County Commission. Now the family may not even be eligible for a rehearing on the matter until sometime in the spring next year.

The Kraft family is proposing the development of 570,000 sf of industrial space and 68,000 sf of commercial space on a site that now contains 12,107 sf of nursery space and 24,400 sf of storage space, within a platted area covering about 39 acres.
