WOBURN, MA-Genuity, the locally based Internet infrastructure-services provider, will lay off 990 full time employees as well as half of its contract employees–in all, about 24% of its labor force. The move, which in a released statement the company terms part of a “company-wide restructuring and cost-savings plan,” comes on the heels of a round of layoffs by the company this past May.

“Like many companies in the country, the slowdown in the economy has made us adapt to revenue expectations,” John Vincenzo, director of corporate communications for Genuity, tells GlobeSt.com. Genuity has three locations in Massachusetts, with its headquarters here and facilities in Burlington and Cambridge. Vincenzo says that what will happen to these facilities has “not yet been determined. We can’t say definitively yes or no if the facilities will be impacted.”
