The plant will generate several hundred jobs. The manufacturing plant is designed with space for painting, office, pump house and a supplemental day-care building.

Construction wrapped up in 10 months. Kitchell Mexico worked with Guadalajara-based design firm LAU Arquitectos on the design-build phase.

More than any other Phoenix-based development and construction firm, Kitchell has taken advantage of the spurt of border development. The firm opened its Mexican subsidiary more than five years ago and has since worked on a number of major projects on the Mexican side, where US-based companies are allowed to build manufacturing and assembly plants. The projects have been for such big names as General Instruments, Molex Inc., Motorola, Oxford Automotive (a first tier supplier to General Motors) in Saltillo, Coahuila; Hewlett-Packard and Rosti A/S in Guadalajara, Jalisco; and Weyerhauser in Silao, Guanauato.
