The design firm has started work on the new center, located between the new $20 million athletic center and new $18 million parking structure at Montezuma and 55th Street. Construction is set to begin this month, with completion slated for October 2003.

The Alumni Association is developing the project, with general contracting and construction provided by Midwest General. Tucker Sadler Noble Castro is doing the planning, programming, architectural and schematic design.

The project will encompass an exterior rotunda, an office suite, meeting rooms, a boardroom, a lounge/library, a ballroom, a kitchen and storage areas. The design goal is to create a compact and efficient building that can be used for a variety of alumni and SDSU purposes, while providing a balance to the strong shapes of the nearby athletic center.
