Allegro at Jack London Square will offer 310 units of new rental housing in the middle of Oakland's downtown area. The project, which was designed by Sandy & Babcock International and developed by SNK Development, will make a significant contribution to Mayor Jerry Brown's goal of adding 10,000 new housing units in the downtown area.
The project consists of three sites on adjacent corners in the Jack London Square area. The buildings are five and six stories, and combine a pedestrian scale with an industrial sensibility designed to fit the history and context of the surrounding waterfront neighborhood.
The first building has four levels of housing over two layers of parking, while the other two buildings consist of four levels of residences over a single layer of parking.
The apartment units average about 900-sf and are marketed toward young professionals. The units are equipped with home office work stations, broadband internet access/high-speed data transmission capability and are pre-wired with multiple telephone lines and integrated voice, video and data capabilities. The units are designed as loft-style units that can function as live-work spaces.
