The community college's enrollment increased 5.7% in the fall semester, which it says have stretched its facilities to near capacity. The area surrounding the proposed campus, which is across Stassney Lane from Crockett High School, accounts for 24% of the college's credit students.

Albertsons, the Boise, ID-based grocery company, owns the building. The property's assessed value is $3.4 million, according to the Travis Central Appraisal District.

ACC has gobbled up commercial properties throughout the Austin area to form its six campuses. Its southwest campus is in the Pinnacle, a high-rise office building in Oak Hill; the Riverside campus is partly a former country club; and the college has administrative offices in an office building near Highland Mall in northeast Austin.
