The agreement, which was unanimously approved, will grant CSFU a 10-year lease at the former Air Wing Headquarters. The university plans to sink $1.5 million in repairs into the 46,000-sf facility, which was built in 1986. A six-month period has been granted to CSFU, so that it can draw up renovation plans. During this time, the university is free to withdraw from the agreement. Rent for the first five years of the lease will be set at $56,000 a month, with a $12,000 monthly credit given for repairs.

The decision to grant CSFU a lease comes just two weeks after county supervisors approved the environmental impact report for the proposed El Toro airport-convention. Now that it has been approved, the federal government can turn over much of the former El Toro Marine Base to the county for the purpose of building the airport. Opponents of the El Toro plan, however, are pushing to get an initiative on March's ballot that would turn the former base into a park.
