Closed for two years, the half-century old Pentagon City Hospital – known at one time as National Hospital for Orthopedics and Rehabilitation – makes way for the 190-unit, mid-rise complex. KSI Senior Vice President Richard Knapp says the formerly underutilized space will be redeveloped to complement the area. "We faced complex environmental, architectural and engineering issues in redeveloping this site," Knapp explains. "But our efforts will bring out an apartment community that enhances the neighborhood and strengthens Arlington's 'live-work-play' environment." The hospital's existing 350-space parking garage will be refurbished. KSI expects construction to be completed in late 2002.
