The awards highlight efforts being made by towns and cities across the UK to enhance the quality of their central areas: focusing on the provision of an attractive and safe environment for shoppers backed up by improved accessibility and transport infrastructure
Ian Mashiter, development director of Chartwell Land and Chairman of the BCSC Town Centre Environment Awards Jury awarded the overall prize to Whitehaven. Judges were impressed by the regeneration of the waterfront and the town centre which 'transformed Whitehaven from a run-down port into a very attractive centre for shoppers and tourists alike.'
