The full-service supermarket, to be built on a central plaza and termed an "urban grocery store," is scheduled to be completed by next fall. According to one of the architects on the project, Robert Brown AIA, of CBT/Childs Bertman Tseckares, Inc., the design of the building will be consistent with the neighborhood, as Boston Properties, developer of the Prudential Center, and a local citizens committee have agreed. "We have made every effort in the design of the new Shaw's to make certain that building was the best possible neighbor," Brown states in the release. "It is very much in keeping with the redevelopment goal of both the citizens represented by PruPac and those of Boston Properties to connect the Prudential Center to the neighborhoods."

The supermarket's target market will be community residents and workers from the offices and shops at the Prudential complex. In addition to the store, Boston Properties will also be expanding the retail component of the Prudential Center by 150,000 sf of space with new tenants including J. Jill, El Portal, Berkshire Grille and Femme de Carriere as well as an expansion by Levi's.
