UCB has outgrown its current home, after experiencing a doubling in size and revenue since it set up shop in the Cobb County area in 1995. The four-story facility will be the fifth building on the company's campus and will be large enough to accommodate about 300 employees.

Company officials "want to build on the tremendous growth that we've seen in recent years to further strengthen our U.S. presence," UCB President Tony Tebbutt says in a prepared statement.

UCB focuses on the development of pharmaceuticals that treat diseases related to the central nervous system and the respiratory system.

"At a time when global pharmaceutical companies must have a strong U.S. presence to remain competitive, we have seen the benefits of focusing our U.S. strategy on the specific disease categories associated with allergy-asthma and neurology," UCB CEO Baron Jacobs says in the same statement.

Belgian-based UCB Group is the parent company of UCB North America.
