The Minnesota Department of Agriculture has committed $11 million toward the development, while private funding from the Friends of the Farmers Market is close to raising $2.5 million.
The project would add an all-year venue for produce shoppers and would create some additional "vibrancy" in Downtown St. Paul, according to city officials. The city is asked to contribute up to $4 million, and is expected to include that amount in its budget, whichit is expected to adopt next month.
