The Port Authority recently agreed to sell land to the company for $1 in return of workforce and design considerations, according to Port Authority officials. The privately held 30-year-old company, which will do the construction work itself, expects the building to be ready for occupancy early next year.
The project will be built on the 22-acre Maxson Steel site as part of the first phase of the park's development. Custom Drywall, with 150 employees and plans to add 40 more over the next few years, is the first to go into the new Great Northern business park.
The Port Authority also plans to add 25 adjacent acres of the Dale Street Shops property be added to the second phase of the business park, and ranks this park as the authority's highest priority for its next business center.
