According to Frito-Lay, the expansion will bring 35 new jobs and allow the Ft. Bend County factory, situated south of Houston, to support production of 10 million pounds annually of Cheetos. In total, the facility manufactures annually more than 84 million pounds of snack items. More production lines and packaging equipment constitute the bulk of the renovation costs. For Rosenberg, it's a sign of an ongoing commitment to the community. Work is under way and should deliver by February 2002.

Frito-Lay, founded in San Antonio in 1932 by Elmer Doolin, employs 460 at the Ft. Bend County manufacturing site. The location opened in 1982 and services South Texas and Western Louisiana. In May, the Rosenberg facility received a top OSHA honor for corporate leadership in occupational safety and health.
