KSL, which also owns and operates the La Quinta Resort and Spa and PGA West in La Quinta, as well as resorts in Arizona and Hawaii, plans to renovate La Costa early next year. The sale is expected to close later this month. Terms of the transaction were not released.

The 479-room resort has a spa, two 18-hole golf courses, a tennis center and convention and banquet facilities. The resort covers 400 acres.

The resort has a longstanding tradition of attracting leaders in business, sports figures, celebrities and those seeking a luxury getaway in the San Diego area, said Scott M. Dalecio, president of KSL's resort division.
