Gart Sports Co. Expands In 4 States

DENVER-New stores are in the Crystal Lake Mall in Crystal Lake, IL; the Southwest Plaza III Shopping Center in Springfield, IL; Burbank Empire Center in Burbank, CA; and Arbor Lake in Maple Grove, MN and in Frisco, TX.

DENVER-Gart Sports Co., the second-largest full-line retailer in the US, has opened five new stores. Gart is parent of Gart Sports, Sportmart and the Oshman’s sporting goodchains.

Four of the new stores are Sportmarts: one in the Crystal Lake Mall inCrystal Lake, IL; the Southwest Plaza III Shopping Center in Springfield,IL; Burbank Empire Center in Burbank, CA; and Arbor Lake in MapleGrove, MN. It also opened an Oshman’s in Frisco, TX.

”These store openings represent a key step in our overall expansion strategy,” says Doug Morton, chairman, president and CEO of Gart Sports. ”Texas, Illinois, Minnesota and California all have been strong markets for our stores and we are excited about our expanding presence in each state.”
