WASHINGTON, DC-Reports are circulating around the real estate community that the US Institute of Peace (USIP) has chosen renowned Somerville, MA-based architectural firm Moshe Safdie and Associates Inc. to design the organization’s new headquarters. Plans are still in the works, but the structure will be between 75,000 sf and 100,000 sf in size, and will cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $38 million.

In regard to the choice of architect, USIP Director of Communications Sheryl Brown says, “I cannot confirm any of that information.” She adds, “we have no contract in place in terms of contracting an architect.” There is no scheduled date for the start of construction or the completion of the project as of yet. “We do have a capital campaign and we’re working on the concept of the building,” Brown explains. USIP is carefully planning the move form its current space at 1200 17th Street, to the new space, to be located at 23rd Street and Constitution Avenue.
