"This is one of the largest downtown Oakland office leases in 2001," says Al Musante, vice president at Colliers International in Oakland and the man who brokered the deal. "This building has had almost 55,000 sf of leasing and renewal in 2001, a good number given this market."

San Francisco State University plans to use the space for its Oakland Multimedia Center, which will serve as a conference center for corporations and organizations during the day, and classroom space in the evenings.

"Oakland continues to find prominence as both a government center and a key location for extended learning," Musante adds. "On top of the SFSU move, the City of Oakland has chosen to move its Higher Education Consortium to 2201 Broadway as well."

"The Higher Education Center is a collaboration between public and private educational institutions and offers information, programs and classes specializing in professional development and training," says the City of Oakland.

Bear River Associates, a local software company, also signed a deal with 2201 Broadway for 7,201-sf at the same address. Musante and Greg Hugo of Colliers brokered both deals.
