Regional Hubs Growing Faster Than Heathrow, Reports King Sturge

LONDON-Property serving the UK's regional airports is likely to perform better than the over-cooked Heathrow market, according to a new report on UK airports by King Sturge.

LONDON-The impact of 11 September on international air travel is likely to be relatively short-lived, according to a new report from King Sturge. And growth in passenger and freight traffic will recover in the medium to long term, putting even more pressure on property close to the UK’s main airports.

But the report points out that London Heathrow–long seen as the hottest airport in property terms–has been overtaken, with many regional hubs showing faster rental growth for both office and industrial properties. Passenger numbers at regional airports have grown by 6.4% per annum in recent years, while London’s airports have grown by 5.5%. Likewise, freight volumes handled have grown even faster at 9% for regional airports and 6.4% for London airports.
