Dole to Build $15.4-Mil Cold-Container Plant

SAN DIEGO-Dole Fresh Fruit Co. plans to build a 20-acre, $15.4 million refrigerated container facility at the 10th Avenue Marine Terminal on San Diego Bay.

SAN DIEGO-The Port District has awarded Taylor Ball of California Inc. the construction contract to build a 20-acre, $15.4-million refrigerated container facility at the 10th Avenue Marine Terminal on San Diego Bay, winning out over two other bidders. The facility will include a 25,000-sf refrigerated warehouse, a 9,400-sf, two-story office building, a repair shop, container and trailer wash facility and gatehouse.

Dole Fresh Fruit Co., the world’s largest producer of fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers, signed a 20-year lease with the Port District last spring to operate the container facility, though terms weren’t available. The port is demolishing two buildings to make way for the container operation, which is moving to San Diego from Los Angeles.
