Hotels Band Together On Travel Specials

SAN ANTONIO-The city's tourism industry, the second-biggest business here, is trying to generate traffic, which has been decimated by the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the US. Hotels and tourist attractions offer specials.

SAN ANTONIO-Trying to generate tourist traffic, San Antonio is offering holiday season travel packages at discount prices. Dubbed the “Holiday on the River” package, travelers can get special rates starting at $129 on hotels and tickets to attractions such as the Witte Museum and IMAX Theater.

Tourism, San Antonio’s second-biggest industry, generates $4 billion a year in revenue and employs 79,000. It has suffered, however, after travelers cut back following the Sept. 11 attacks. The city’s hotels will lose up to $47 million in gross revenues through Dec. 31, according to estimates. The resulting impact could take up to $100 million from the San Antonio economy.
