SAPC was selected by PSELC to design, supply and install the system. The roof-mounted PV system produces enough power to run the Learning Center and more importantly allows PSELC to meet its goal of sustainability. SAPC also provided their state-of-the-art data acquisition and monitoring package. The software and hardware-based package enables the learning center to graphically monitor their system's solar energy production and to incorporate the data into their learning programs.

"The photovoltaic panels will help children learn about resource conservation and alternative energy. We will be developing a curriculum to help students understand where the energy they use comes from, and how they can make informed choices on how much energy they use" says Clancy Wolf, PSELC Technology Coordinator.

Scheduled to open in fall 2002, the PSELC is a 255-acre complex of forests, wetlands, and buildings that promotes hands-on learning and environmental stewardship.

Mithun, a leading architectural firm also responsible for the REI flagship store in Seattle, designed the site. The U.S. Green Building Council recognized the PSELC project in their Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program.
