The sale closed in November and workers are grading the site. The 27-acre development is at the northwest corner of the 1604-281 intersection. A Super Wal-mart is on adjacent property.

Costco bought the property from Orion Partners, a San Antonio real estate and investment firm, according to the firm's Dean Bundrick. He tells GlobeSt.com that Dallas-based Romano's Macaroni Grill has a contract to put a store on the part of the remaining land.

Costco has located its San Antonio stores in the city's hottest areas. Both the northwest area, where the company's first San Antonio store, at 5611 UTSA Blvd., near the intersection of Interstate 10 and Loop 1604, and the north central area are experiencing rapid growth. Costco has nine stores in Texas.
