Impax Laboratories, Inc. has several generic drugs waiting to be approved and many branded medications. The company wants to expand its Hayward presence to benefit its research and development operations.

IMPAX has contracted with Webcor Construction Inc. of San Francisco to build a pharmaceutical dosage form manufacturing facility in its recently leased 50,000-square-foot building in Hayward. It is anticipated that this facility will be operational in mid-2002.

Impax recently bought a 50,400-square-foot building at 31153 San Antonio Street in Hayward to Impax Laboratories Inc. for $4.9 million.Impax plans to construct a $15.9 million manufacturing plant near its current Hayward location at 30831 Huntwood Avenue., which houses about 80 employees. With the new facility, the company expects to have 325 employees by 2005.
