Most of the 16 buildings will be demolished, two will be moved and five will be used by the local fire department for training. A methamphetamine lab was found in one of the houses in the recent past, and neighbors have complained that transients use the houses for shelter.
In addition to the Albertson's store, a restaurant, gas station and 10,000 sf of non-grocery retail are on the drawing board for the property. Alberston's plans to apply for development permits this summer. Construction could be underway by the spring of 2003. A Haggen Food and Pharmacy is planned one block to the east.
