The opening marks the first in the immediate market for Extended Stay America, but it's the company's 11th property in New Jersey and its 426th nationally. The Spartanburg, SC-based company was founded in 1995 by George D. Johnson, Jr., who is the CEO, and former Blockbuster honcho Wayne Huizenga, who is the company's chairman.

"The extended-stay lodging market is the fastest growing segment of the hotel industry," Johnson asserts. "It's catching the interest of business people, people who are relocating, and those with extended work assignments."
