Topping the list in terms of value is the police station at 9701 Reisterstown Rd. The building sits on a 4.1-acre plot and is expected to fetch at least $3 million. A new station is in the works but will not be available for move-in for two years. The largest property on the block is the 14.9-acre Ridge School site on Ruxton's West Joppa Road. Officials hope to get a little over $2.5 million for this property. Those seeking to spend a little less money have options, too. The former State Highway Administration shop in Monkton will go on the block with an appraisal value of $180,000. The structure sits on a 1.4-acre plot at Old York Road and Hess Road. The site containing the historic Cockey-Feeney House will carry a price tag of $58,000. That property is on .3 acres at 147 Church Lane. Finally, the Carver Center for the Arts and Technology is expected to bring in $4,700. Formerly home of the Towsontown Junior High School the property has already been promised to West Road Limited Partnership, an entity under the control of Baltimore Orioles chief Peter G. Angelos.

The plan to sell the properties barely won passage in the seven-member council. The move is a controversial one among members and area residents, alike--some of whom believe selling the properties is financially prudent, and others who think certain assets should remain in county hands. In a statement to the local press, Baltimore County Budget and Finance Director Fred Homan supports the decision, saying "it sends all the signals about Baltimore County continuing to do the right things."
